Architect thankful for touching gift

Grateful Reminder
Posted on 10/11/2019

Sometime giving thanks is about expressing gratitude for the gifts we’ve received from people we may never know.

That was the case with William Kachmaryk Sr., a parishioner at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in East Windsor.

At last Sunday’s service, parishioners received decorated personalized brown paper bags that were made by students from St. Teresa of Calcutta, St. Rose, and Ste. Anne French Immersion Catholic Elementary Schools. The bags were intended to be filled up with food items for the less fortunate.

Kachmaryk, who was the architect who designed W.J. Langlois Catholic Elementary School, was so moved that he decided to fill up a box of food instead and keep the bag, taking digital images of it and providing it for Director of Education Terry Lyons, along with a note commending the work of the students.

“Seeing this outreach to the Catholic Community and those it serves by your students stands as a tribute to the virtues entrusted to the Board,” he said in his letter. “Maintaining this element of Faith shows great promise.”

Kachmaryk said he bag came from a student named Sadie, and he noted in his letter that apparently “we do have our own Greta Thunberg version in multiple numbers and hopefully, it will point the way to a righteous Canadian future in which we take pride toward recognition of the heritage benevolence instilled on the youth within our school system.”

“No matter religious affiliation, recognition of need and the ability to do good unto others prevails,” he added. “They are not required to reciprocate in return apart from recognition that someone cares.”
