Caboto Soccer inks agreement to use Holy Names

Home Field
Posted on 04/25/2019

The Giovanni Caboto Soccer Club has found a new home at Holy Names Catholic High School, the WECDSB announced today.

Beginning at the end of April, all 44 of the local soccer club’s home games will be played on the $1.8 million facility. The club’s teams, which include about 600 local players, will use the field for about 800 hours on weeknights from Monday through Thursday and on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. from April until early October.

The club, which was founded in 1951 and has won four Ontario Cup championships, has used a variety of fields throughout the city up until this season.

The turf field, constructed by Worldwide Turf Canada Inc. of Barrie, Ontario, was completed in 2018 and opened for the beginning of the school year last September. It also includes a 400-metre, six-lane running track, bleacher seating and a press box.

“We’re absolutely thrilled that our players will be able to enjoy such a remarkable new facility,” said Caboto Soccer President Egidio Mosca. “It’s a top quality field and for the family, friends and other supporters of our teams, this will create a wonderful viewing experience for them. We can start to build an environment here that feels like home, and we can’t wait for our season to get started.”

Director of Education Terry Lyons described the new partnership as a win-win.

“We make investments in infrastructure to improve the experience for our students, but also for the benefit of our community,” he said. “This will be a wonderful field for the players of the Caboto Soccer Club, but the revenue generated through this partnership guarantees that we will be able to maintain this as a premier facility in Windsor-Essex for years to come.”

Trustee Fred Alexander said the new field is a beautiful facility for the world's most popular sport.

"Much of the credit belongs with our Facilities Services department for overseeing the creation of this place and for putting together this agreement with our new partners," he said. "I'd like to wish the Caboto Soccer Club all the best as they begin their new season here."
