Guidance

Guidance Counselors assist students by providing academic, career, and personal counselling. Parent/Guardians are invited to call the Guidance Department to request an appointment with a Counselor. All students will receive appointments to meet with their Guidance Counselor. Students may also request an appointment to meet with a Guidance Counselor when necessary.

Meet The Team

Mrs. Castagna
IB Guidance Counsellor
Department Head

Jaclyn Castagna has been teaching at Assumption for the past 14 years, 9 of which have been at Assumption. 

Mrs. Castagna has been trained in IB DP Mathematics,Guidance and CAS (Creativity, Activity and Service).

Coordinator for Creativity, Activity and Service.

She is the moderator for Student Council. 

Coordinator for Assumption’s Relay for Life. 

Mrs. Castagna completed her undergraduate degree for Science and Education at the University of Windsor. She is a dedicated, enthusiastic educator, committed to the nurturing of a positive school environment that will enhance students’ well-being, influence their academic achievement and encourage a life-long passion for learning and personal growth.

Mr. Idone
Guidance Counsellor

Mr. Idone has been at teaching for 13 years, with his last 6 years at Assumption. He has been a guidance counsellor since 2015, having served as Acting Department Head on two different occasions. 

He is committed to guiding and creating a positive, learning experience for the students at Assumption. He strives to help in preparing them for a smooth transition to their post-secondary lives, be it the world of continuing education or the work force. He is also passionate about the social, mental and academic well-being of the student body .

He is a graduate of the University of Windsor, with a Bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences. He also graduated from their Faculty of Education with a Bachelors of Education degree.

He coaches the junior boy's soccer team. He also served on the W.E.C.S.S.A.A Executive Board for 5 years. He currently is a member of the S.W.OS.S.A.A Board of Directors, having served since 2016.  He has also been a member of three different O.F.S.A.A organizing committees for both soccer and basketball. He also coached high school football for over 23 years from 1992-2015, which stops at Holy Names, Herman, St. Anne's and Assumption.

He is the school representative and strong proponent of the Encounters With Canada program. This program has been available to Assumption student for  the last 5 years. 

Outside of school Mr. Idone is involved with a number of sports organizations. He is an active board member of Caboto Soccer, serving as their social media director. He is an active participant in Caboto Club indoor racquet sports, playing in singles racquetball, UK racquetball, squash and doubles racquetball leagues. He is an avid gardener and specializes in growing a variety of hot peppers. He enjoys any and all sports.

Ms. Weir
Student Success Teacher (SST)

Ms. Amy Weir, a 1994 graduate of Assumption College Catholic High School, is a third generation Purple Raider following her grandfather, Fredrick Weir (1946) and father, Gary Weir(1967). Ms. Weir began her teaching career over twenty years ago and her dream came true when she returned to ACS teaching full time alongside her father, the first and only time a father/daughter was on staff teaching together until his retirement from ACS in 2009.

Ms. Weir graduated from the University of Windsor with a Bachelor of Arts in Drama, with a minor in Psychology, followed by a  Bachelor of Education. Additional qualifications include Drama Specialist, Religion Specialist, Leadership and Primary/Junior Qualifications.

Over the years at ACS, Ms. Weir has taught Drama, Religion, Social Sciences, Special Education, Acting Department Head of Arts, and currently is the Student Success Teacher.

Ms. Weir has facilitated proms, plays,coached various sports(baseball, volleyball), after school literacy program, student success assemblies, student support,Terry Fox Walk, peer mentoring, teacher mentoring,homework club,exam crams, Christmas outreach and “The 12 days of Christmas Elf Tradition”.

Ms. Weir is a mother to three beautiful children; Cayden, Tristen and Kailyn.
