Attendance Reporting for Parents

Reporting Attendance

Students learn best when they attend school regularly. Attendance is directly related to academic success and is required under the Education Act of Ontario.  As a school, we promote regular attendance, have a duty to monitor attendance and investigate why a student may be absent.

To report your child's absence:
1. Attendance Line (phone) 519-727-8908. Calls can be made any time of day or night or,
2. If more convenient, please email our attendance desk [email protected]. Please include the student’s name in the subject line. In the message content,  please add the date and reason for the absence.

  • If this has not occurred, the student is automatically marked truant and the school will call home. It is the student's responsibility to ensure that a phone call is received by the attendance office or a note is brought from his/her parents, dated, signed and with the reason for absence indicated. Truant students may not be granted any credit for tests, quizzes, assignments etc. given during the period of truancy.

Students who miss period 1 must sign in at the Attendance Office. If you become ill during class time - students will inform the teacher, go to the Attendance Office, and the secretary will contact home.

Leaving school during the day

If a student needs to leave school during the school day, they need to go to the Attendance Office, and the secretary will contact home, unless a parent call or note has previously been submitted.

Consequences for Absences
If a student is absent from any assigned class, his/her parents will receive a phone call from the automated phone system. We ask that parents respond to the call immediately to provide a reason for the absence.. Absences have an impact on student learning and achievement. Unexplained absences may result in consequences including detentions, parent meetings, and referral to the attendance counsellor, suspensions, and removal from class or school if the student is 18 years of age or older.

Work Missed Due to an Absence

It is the student’s responsibility to complete work missed during an absence.
Students should have their parents/guardians contact the office to arrange for work to be sent home in the case of an extended illness (more than three days).
