New Catholic Central High School

A Brief History

In November of 2016, then Ontario Minister of Education Mitzie Hunter confirmed that the WECDSB would receive approximately $26M in funding to build a new school to replace Catholic Central High School.

The Board’s original plan called for the school to be located in Windsor’s downtown core at the site of the former Windsor Arena, however after careful consideration, it was decided to purchase an 11-acre piece of property between Ouellette and McDougall Avenues, less than a kilometer south of the school’s present location on Tecumseh Road East.

Where We Are Now

The Board anticipates opening the new school for the 2022-23 school year.

On Jan. 28, 2020 the Board approved a recommendation to hire +VG Architects to design the new school. You can read a press release about that decision here.

The Board is also in the beginning of the community and public consultation phase.

Public Consultations and Community Partnerships

Gathering community feedback from our stakeholders on what they would like to see in this new building is extremely important to us.

Soliciting feedback will be an ongoing process and there will be a number of opportunities for our community partners to offer their ideas on the school's design.

The first of these many steps is a Parent Survey. If you have already completed the first part of the phone survey, please proceed to the remaining section of the parent survey below:

Next Steps

Once the community consultation process has been completed, the Board is required to submit a Facility Space Template (FST) to the Ministry of Education for approval before an architect can be hired. The FST defines how much space will be required and how the Board intends to use that space.

Once the Ministry has approved the FST, the Board must then submit its final cost estimates to ensure that it doesn’t exceed the designated funding amount, along with a floor plan approval letter.

After these and other steps have been approved, the Board can proceed with tendering the project.
